Without a doubt, traveling to Cape Verde offers us endless possibilities, fantastic corners and places to discover and a thousand activities to do. The trip lasted 7 days. Focused on doing the <strong>Pico do Fogo Trek<\/strong> and the <strong>trekking in the Valle du Paul<\/strong>. Although later a day of <strong>diving in Santa Ant\u00e3o.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-BoEl6m\">Without any doubt, traveling to Cape Verde has been an experience and it is a tourist It was a proposal to travel to Cape Verde!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-uDoVod\">What did you know about Cape Verde? Well, absolutely nothing, but the photos that I could see on the web immediately caught my attention, so I looked for some more information. Then I could read: Cape Verde the country of no stress. Travel to Cape Verde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-k1rApq\">Cape Verde is a country well known for its wonderful diving areas. Its climate is tropical dry, it allows&nbsp;<strong>diving all year round<\/strong>. There is a hospital or health center in the most important population centers. These centers usually have limited means. Nothing to do with the first taxi I took from the airport to the hotel in Praia. Once we get into the taxi, we head to Cidade Velha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-OrfSz6\">On the way the taxi driver tells me that he is also a tour guide and that he owes him a favor. As he tells me I will follow the route with him. Before this I oppose, in a very assertive way, I tell him that I have hired him and therefore I do not want to change the taxi driver. Furthermore, his partner does not speak English or Spanish. Without thinking twice the guide accepts (he will owe you the favor for another day). One thing is clear, these people are very savvy, since they make their living from tourism and are sometimes a bit opportunistic. They do not do it in bad faith, by talking with them you can reach a good agreement. In this way when he returns in about 1 hour we will not have to wait, so that he gives us time for everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"eplus-B8NgW3 wp-block-heading\">Discovering the surroundings of Cidade Velha<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-UeUd13\">We follow a path that runs through a dry river towards the interior, above some lateral margins that are at a certain height. As we walk, the guide shows me the different plantations in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-cOkwdh\">Later, he shows me a small house belonging to an acquaintance of his. The man invites me to come in and cuts a piece of sugar cane for me to chew. I am struck by the very small house where he lives, it is just a room, that is very clean and cozy. Outside he has a large field where his three children and several dogs play. On one side there is an outside area that they use as a dining room with a tent and a seating area. I am struck by how well arranged everything is, and how cozy the place is. Before we leave, I thank him for showing me his house and we continue the route. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-jpJ2EW\">We walk for a while and we arrive at a very cool inn but according to what the guide tells me is abandoned, a shame because as a rustic accommodation it is really beautiful, but who knows ... it should not be profitable!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-xSYEeo\">We went out to the stream and headed back to town, but not before visiting a small <strong>grovo distillery<\/strong>! A small building, like a shack that is on the side of the stream. It has a small fire on the ground with a barrel on top, its tube goes down a raft of water to cool the drink and a small room where it keeps the carafes with this alcoholic drink so typical of Cape Verde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-AVBJvL\">We return to town and go to the restaurant that had ordered the dishes. Once there we were served our food quickly. For a second I just stand there and think: this is a fucking joke! I tell the guide and the taxi driver and we run off. It just can not be! Has the flight been advanced by 2 hours without warning? I do not understand anything! Soon I get another call from Pako: Where are you? To which I answer that I am on my way to the airport, about 30 minutes. He informs me that he is arguing with the company and that I should hurry! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-ve8wEL\">I have the backpack at the hotel, I have to pick it up and then go to the airport! The woman at the counter tells me that I have already checked in and that I cannot access. I quickly explain that the tickets are for a group, but that I have not checked in because I was previously on the island. For this reason, the rest of the group is waiting for me inside to take the plane and I have not checked in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-BSTZgA\">He checks it on the computer and effectively. As soon as we leave the airport, our local guide awaits us and takes us to a restaurant in the same town to eat, since the rest of the group with the combination of flights has not been able to eat. It is quite late to eat with the schedules of the islands, but the restaurant has no problem preparing our meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-uj70QY\">Eating and talking about a thousand things Pako tells us that one of the flights between islands is not available and that instead of flying on the 15th, we have a flight on the 16th! Something that makes it impossible to dive in Santa Antao, because we extended our stay on the island of Fogo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"eplus-Tb1OgN wp-block-heading\">Entering the Pico du Fogo Natural Park<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-3TzRME\">Once the group has finished eating, we get into a van \/ mini bus and head to the Pico du Fogo Natural Park. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-TGQN1t\">We stopped at the entrance of the natural park, it is marked with a sign and the landscape and the ground suddenly turn black. Some are uninhabited for this reason, others nevertheless live people despite having half a house &quot;flooded&quot; by lava. Something really spectacular to see, as well as to appreciate the living conditions of this small population and the losses they had with the eruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"eplus-owCHM1 wp-block-heading\">Our accommodation in <strong>Ch\u00e3 das Caldeiras<\/strong>: Cicilio House<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-quyZwe\">We stay at <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.es\/Hotel_Review-g1185510-d16852116-Reviews-Casa_Cicilio-Cha_das_Caldeiras_Fogo.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cicilio House<\/a>: It is run by a married couple, Cecilio and Helena. He is very joking and laughs all day, they are both very helpful. Also, the food they prepare is incredibly good. Without a doubt a fantastic site! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-zMMpu4\">The accommodations are very new with photovoltaic energy, since there is no electricity in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-IGDcQF\">Also water is limited. It is rainwater, collected in tanks above the accommodation and therefore its use must be greatly rationalized, it does not have pressure or hot water, but it gives enough to shower after the ascent to the <strong>pico du fogo<\/strong>. Its elevation is 1,482 m. It is a sub-peak of the Pico do Fogo volcano, located in the extreme northeast of the crater rim. It is located within the municipality of Mosteiros, 4 km southwest of the city center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-ZHVciu\">Due to the fact that we have been able to advance the flights, we made a change in the original planning. We got up early and put on our boots again, today we have to walk the entire esplanade of the volcano&#039;s caldera, leaving the volcano behind us and going down to sea level. It is the second largest city, in terms of area, after the Cape Verdean capital,&nbsp;<strong>Praia<\/strong>. In this urban environment, the vast majority of&nbsp;<strong>S\u00e3o Vicente population<\/strong>, since the rest of the small towns of the island hardly stand out for their number of inhabitants, although they have some of the&nbsp;<strong>best natural spaces<\/strong>&nbsp;from Cape Verde. Furthermore, Mindelo is considered as the&nbsp;<strong>cultural capital of the country<\/strong>, gracias a sus celebraciones y festividades durante todo el a\u00f1o.<\/p>\n<p>Por las calles de Mindelo podremos apreciar el gran amor y estima de sus habitante a Ces\u00e1ria \u00c9vora, cantante&nbsp;caboverdiana nacida en esta misma poblaci\u00f3n&nbsp;conocida con el sobrenombre de \u00abla reina de la&nbsp;morna\u00bb. Tambi\u00e9n era conocida como \u00abla diva de los pies descalzos\u00bb, debido a su costumbre de presentarse descalza sobre los escenarios, en solidaridad con los sin techo y las mujeres y ni\u00f1os pobres de su pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p>Como curiosidad en cuanto a la composici\u00f3n de su terreno, Mindelo tiene&nbsp;<strong>crescent shape<\/strong>, bounded in its interior by the main hills of the city and surrounding, in turn, already on the coast, the&nbsp;<strong>Porto Grande Bay<\/strong>. I quickly yelled at him and he left as quickly as possible so as not to have a problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-c1nIXD\">I can say that Cape Verde in its entirety is the safest to travel, to walk among its people, since they are very friendly and close to tourists. But that does not mean that there is someone with bad intentions, so simply be careful in areas where there is a large influx of people and in the most touristy areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-u7dFUW\">After this little scare we headed towards the ferry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-840hx1\">Comment that the only means of transportation to get to Santo Ant\u00e3o is by sea, a few years ago in Santo Ant\u00e3o there was a small airfield called Agostinho Neto, which was closed for security reasons. Locating in Ponta do Sol<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"eplus-qjAmPg wp-block-heading\">Porto Novo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"eplus-5fjqfC wp-block-heading\">Landing the ferry, first contact with the island<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-tXeH08\">We left Mindelo by ferry and arrived in Porto Novo, here I am separated from the group. To do the scuba dive I stay overnight here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-paqRqg\">When you get off the ferry in Porto Novo you find a lot of people boarding you if you want a taxi. Everyone volunteers, in the case of our group, we had the pre-contracted transfer, but it seemed not to be in place, our transport was late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-tB8vQe\">If you do not have any transfer service, you will not have any problem finding travel, since all the islanders know the arrival times of the ferries and they are offering their services there. In addition, the companies are directly opposite to be able to contract these services. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-KJ13wC\">As our transport was late, everyone asked us our name, once they heard it they approached as if they were our previously hired transfer. So to make sure we contacted our local contact on the islands: Gaby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-BkCQ7T\">Gaby explained to us that her driver was about to arrive, and that the same driver would show us the Whatsap conversation to verify that he was really the one we expected. Of the many who approached us saying that he was our hired driver when asked about the conversation, they realized that we had &quot;found out&quot; and left.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-2RLUan\">It caught my attention that the drivers are at the top of the stairs, where they have a red line painted on the ground of the first step, thus being prohibited from getting off to approach tourists. We said goodbye and once they left I walked through the streets of Porto Novo in search of the hotel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"eplus-eorQUa wp-block-heading\">Information to dive in <strong>illha Santo Ant\u00e3o<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-1nV6RB\">In Porto Novo you will find<strong> Santo Antao Blue Eden<\/strong>, the diving club you contact. It is attached to the resort of the town: Santantao Art Resort. So it is very well located and easy to access. Arlindo, the dive guide who receives me at the center, provides me with all the information. They have a club with good facilities next to the resort pool (in which you can take a dip when you return from the dive) and with equipment to rent as well as a zodiac in the port to make the exits. But not without hitting me at first. After bringing the dataphone he explained to me that being a tourist he would not accept the card, I insisted on trying it. Finally and in the first attempt, just swiping the card the first time, I had no problem with the payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-9kGeco\">In this sense, I also comment that at the resort the next day I had to ask for a currency exchange. The hotel is simple but the breakfast more than enough to recharge my batteries for the day ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-wHzEmq\"> Meet Arlingo at 07:00. He will pick me up at the hotel. While waiting I see that time is passing and he does not come, finally he appears and apologizes for the delay, as he explains to me he had to go to look for the boat and on the way back he did not start the car. He looks rushed and the delay tastes bad. Arlindo tries to start the engine and now it is the boat that does not seem to want to start. We all look at each other without saying a word! THIS CAN NOT BE! The old town attracts my attention, with colonial architecture as I have been able to see throughout the trip. I can especially highlight the town hall and the church of Nossa Senhora do Livramento, as well as its small pier for the fishermen&#039;s boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-KiODV7\">We can also see a small abandoned airfield next to the urban area. I think that few times I have made a trip with so many flights, and also a gift due to mistake \/ error at the time of purchase!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-gTS9DH\">I had the flight departing at 10:20<strong>  VXE <\/strong>S\u00e3o Vicente and arrival at 11:10 a.m. <strong>RAI<\/strong> Praia with the airline: <strong>TACV<\/strong>. Still he was calm because he had plenty of time. As time passed and no information was displayed, ask about the flight situation. They could not give me information about the delay, but everyone tells me that it is the most common in Cape Verde and that it is calm, showing an overwhelming tranquility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-jycT1x\">I load with patience and wait. But I watch time go by, nobody gives me any information and around 12:30 I asked again, getting the same answers as before. For more nervousness, a plane from the Binter company arrives that had the arrival later than mine. Which worries me more, because it is a small airport and we are all in the same terminal, the plane is accessed by walking along the runway, so it makes me think that when the Binter company landed before mine, it would delay me even more. .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-IUfuY9\">Finally I see the plane landing, but the boarding is delayed more than necessary because of what I mentioned earlier, they are boarding the passage of the Binter company, so I have to keep waiting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-Mzpkve\">Right in front of the access to the track there is a user from Cape Verde who shows his anger at the situation and there are some tense moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-vqI05a\">After a short time they inform me that we can now access the slopes to board. People are seen in a hurry, the crew is also in a hurry, all boarding goes very fast and they give priority to my flight over the Binter. Goodness! although I look at the clock and it is approximately 12:30 pm and the next flight leaves at 1:40 pm! The flight lasts 1 hour, so it seems to me that I had to run to catch the next flight!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-d90VZ3\">Once on the plane, I ask the assistant about this delay, and he explains that it is common to have these delays every day and this &quot;disorganization&quot; that every day working you can find the most different situations with delays. And he makes reference to me that this is Cape Verde and it refers to the motto \u201cCape Verde: country of no stress\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"eplus-omqhFu wp-block-heading\">Get off the plane and link to the next one, problem at the foot of the runway<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-PSx5AO\">I get off the flight at approximately 1:30 p.m., I have 10 minutes of margin for the next flight to leave, so I breathe a little easier. When passengers get off the plane, they ask us to accompany an attendant to the terminal. Just when entering the terminal I observe that a group of people instead of coming to the terminal are heading directly to the departure terminal, where the passage of the next plane that I have to catch is located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-y6LVZ6\">I mention this to the person who had asked us to accompany him and he explains that if he had to catch another plane he had to have waited and went directly there. There are barely 100 meters from one terminal to another, so I ask you to accompany me. The woman responds with a resounding NO, although it seems that a worker behind her understands the situation and tells her something that she cannot understand. But this is again flatly denied. The conversation continues briefly and seeing that there is no way I decide to run towards the departure terminal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-rfXTA5\">As soon as the backpack comes out through the belt, I pick it up and run towards the security control at the entrance of the terminal. All the controls have to be passed again. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-U6eMym\">I arrive at the departure terminal of the last, they were waiting for me. Just in time! so I go to the plane, put the backpack and wait for takeoff. For a moment I thought I was staying on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"eplus-pSGlAX wp-block-heading\">The flight of the rest of the group canceled.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-813OG9\">Just when I am sitting on the plane waiting to take off I receive a whatsapp from the group of the trip, <strong>the rest of the group have their flight canceled!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-0GSVSU\">They had the direct flight from S\u00e3o Vicente to Lisbon, and later both they and I would catch the same plane from Lisbon to Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-NnwrC4\">According to the company, the flight is canceled due to weather problems! Which worries me since in Europe for those days there was a strong storm of water and wind that was affecting many flights, and in our case we left different islands but both go to Lisbon with the same airlift to Barcelona. So I was wondering if they could cancel it for me too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-LpFxwn\">Finally take off without having more inconvenience!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-HvsJgC\">I arrived in Lisbon at 6:40 p.m., so the first thing I did was go find something to eat. The next flight leaves at 20:50. While I took the opportunity to eat and go to the toilet and then I realized I had to leave for the boarding area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-sJ6MFi\">I had no more problems with the flights. Meteorologically, the return to Barcelona, at approximately 00:00 hours, did not affect me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"eplus-CrGNPC wp-block-heading\">The group trapped in S\u00e3o Vicente<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"eplus-ISdo8P wp-block-heading\">Day 20\/01\/2020<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-QmlVTq\">I asked the rest of the group how the issue of flights is and they answered that that Monday, January 20, 2020, the flight was canceled and they did not have any information. They send me some photos that take advantage of the time to continue visiting things on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-VOAiGX\">They write by WhatsApp that it seems that today they will be able to fly, they are picked up at the hotel and transferred to the airport. They leave the island of S\u00e3o Vicente without problems, arriving in Lisbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-tlVmXI\">In Lisbon they catch the next plane to Barcelona with a slight delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-NlpdfJ\">Comment that those days the storm is reaching the entire area of Catalonia with great force, so I follow the flight information to see its status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-Bk6R3R\">In google it shows me the information that the flight is to <strong>redirected<\/strong>, turning around on the road and returning to Lisbon at 11:40 p.m. (local time).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-6m3WJL\">They leave Lisbon for Barcelona without any delay or incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"eplus-19a96R\">They finally arrive on Wednesday 01\/22\/2020.
